An introduction to Rachel West, Counsellor in Hockley
I decided to start the process of becoming a counsellor some years ago. I found myself needing counselling to deal with issues in my own life and found it extremely beneficial. This experience inspired me to begin my own training.
Within my practice I offer a variety of psychological models. This integrative model allows me to offer you the most appropriate support for your individual needs. I have found that people often benefit from a range of therapies rather just one. Most importantly I work with your agreement to build the therapeutic relationship which is the keystone to change.
The therapies I offer are psychotherapy, gestalt, existential therapy, CBT. Person-centred and transactional analysis.
I am a member of the BACP and abide by their rules of membership. I am insured, have regular supervision to ensure I am offering best practice to my clients and undergo regular training to continue my professional development.
In the past I have worked as a social worker primarily within a preventative, therapeutic charity The Family Services Unit. It was here that I first saw the benefits of counselling for women and children in making improvements in their lives or just feeling safer in their new environments. It is the counselling course which has updated and improved my skills in counselling I have also worked with people with learning difficulties, autism and acquired brain injury and I am passionate about being able to offer access to counselling for people with these diagnosis. I have also experience of ME/CFS and I am keen to offer support to people coming to terms with this debilitating condition.
